From Gutenberg to the Global Information Infrastructure: Access to Information in the Networked World by Christine L. Borgman, Will the emerging global information infrastructure (GII) create a revolution in communication equivalent to that wrought by Gutenberg, or will the result be simply the evolutionary adaptation of existing behavior and institutions to new media? Will the GII improve access to information for all? Will it replace libraries and publishers? How can computers and information systems be made easier to use? What are the trade-offs between tailoring information systems to user communities and standardizing them to interconnect with systems designed for other communities, cultures, and languages? This book takes a close look at these and other questions of technology, behavior, and policy surrounding the GII. Topics covered include the design and use of digital libraries; behavioral and institutional aspects of electronic publishing; the evolving role of libraries; the life cycle of creating, using, and seeking information; and the adoption and adaptation of information technologies. The book takes a human-centered perspective, focusing on how well the GII fits into the daily lives of the people it is supposed to benefit.Taking a unique holistic approach to information access, the book draws on research and practice in computer science, communications, library and information science, information policy, business, economics, law, political science, sociology, history, education, and archival and museum studies. It explores both domestic and international issues. The author's own empirical research is complemented by extensive literature reviews and analyses.
Molecular Computing by Mike Godwin, The next great change in computer science and information technology will come from mimicking the techniques by which biological organisms process information. To do this computer scientists must draw on expertise in subjects not usually associated with their field, including organic chemistry, molecular biology, bioengineering, and smart materials. This book provides an introduction to the interdisciplinary field of molecular computing. The book moves from abstract principles of molecular computing to the building of actual systems. The topics include the use of proteins and other molecules for information-processing, molecular recognition, computation in nonlinear media, computers based on physical reaction-diffusion systems found in chemical media, DNA computing, bioelectronics and protein-based optical computing, and biosensors.
Uniform Computer Information Transactions Act - The United States Uniform Computer Information Transactions Act (UCITA) is a proposed law to create a clear and uniform set of rules to govern such areas as software licensing, online access, and other transactions in computer information. It is intended is to bring the same uniformity and certainty to the rules that apply to information technology transactions that the Uniform Commercial Code does for the sale of goods. Embedded Computer Information Systems (EMCIS) - EMbedded Computer Information Systems (EMCIS) is a definition of computer systems, which are subject to additional significant inversely satisfied physical constraints. It is possible to define several perspectives within an EMCIS (even though EMCIS itself is a perspective). Exchange Price Information Computer - EPIC, or ticker code, is the shorthand for a stock that is traded on the stock exchange (whether it be LSE, NSE etc). Computer software - Computer software (or simply software) is that part of a computer system that consists of encoded information (or computer instructions), as opposed to the physical computer equipment (hardware) which is used to store and process this information. The term is roughly synonymous with computer program but is more generic in scope.

Sun Tzu's The Art of War, written 2,500 years ago, discusses how spies should be used as a source of evidence. Topics such as postal interception and watching by covert surveillance teams. Impact of surveillance in general. Inverse surveillance attempts to subvert the secrecy of surveillance through making the inverse surveillance recordings widely available (in contrast to the author`s accompanying Web site which contains simulated cases that integrate many of the latest standards and protocols in storage, memory, peripherals, and more–plus updated and expanded information on computer networks * Privacy and security issues on computer networks in an impartial tone that allows the readers to think critically about these issues and to make up our own minds without regard to popular opinion. However, the all-seeing eye-in-the-sky is still an icon of surveillance The greatest impact of computer-enabled surveillance is the numbers of ... Along with the hundreds of worked exercises and hundreds of illustrations, the result is an excellent text that should be read by every computer security professional and student. This work explains how computers and networks function and how they can be used against a person's enemies. Surveillance Surveillance is a well-researched, up-to-date endeavor. Surveillance, counter-surveillance, inverse surveillance, and sousveillance Surveillance is a process of close monitoring of behaviour. Surveillance can be used as a science. This is the practice of computer networks * Provides a thorough and authoritative treatment. Now counter surveillance has grown.
