Career Information On Computer Science

Changing Minds by Andrea A. diSessa,

Changing Minds by Andrea A. diSessa,
Andrea diSessa's career as a scholar, technologist, and teacher has been driven by one important question: can education--in particular, science education--be transformed by the computer so that children can learn more, learn more easily at an earlier age, and learn with pleasure and commitment? This book is diSessa1s informed and passionate affirmative answer to that question. While written at a level that anyone with a good acquaintance with high school science can understand, the book reflects the depth and breadth of the issues surrounding technology in education. Rejecting the simplistic notion that the computer is merely a tool for more efficient instruction, diSessa shows how computers can be the basis for a new literacy that will change how people think and learn. He discusses the learning theory that explains why computers can be such powerful catalysts for change in education, in particular, how intuitive knowledge is the platform on which students build scientific understanding. He also discusses the material and social reasons for the computer's potential and argues for "two-way literacies," where everyone is a creator as well as consumer of dynamic and interactive expressive forms. DiSessa gives many examples from his work using the Boxer computer environment, an integrated software system designed to investigate computational literacies.

A Gift of Fire: Social, Legal, and Ethical Issues in Computing by Sara Baase,
A Gift of Fire: Social, Legal, and Ethical Issues in Computing by Sara Baase,
"A Gift of Fire" covers the challenges and implications of computer technology--and the responsibilities of professionals who design and use computer systems. Topics include privacy (data-collection and surveillance technologies and issues), freedom of speech, computer failures, intellectual property, hacking, critics of technology, and more. Updated with new material throughout, this text continues to provide a comprehensive look at new issues. Intended for students preparing for careers in computer science and students in other fields interested in issues that arise from computer technology, this book can be used in both introductory and advanced classes about computing or technology. Recurring Themes Controversies and alternative points of view such as privacy versus law enforcement, freedom of speech versus restricting content on the Internet, intellectual property protection versus access to information, and banning tools and technologies that have beneficial and harmful impacts. Perspectives: Comparing risks and problems of computer technology with other technologies, non-computerized alternatives, and benefits of computers. Solutions to computer-related problem from technology, the market, management, education, and law. Instructional Tools Hundreds of exercises, many based on real cases, many, suitable for class discussion or student presentations. Semantic analysis (computer science) - In computer science, semantic analysis is a pass by a compiler that adds semantical information to the parse tree and performs certain checks based on this information. It logically follows the parsing phase, in which the parse tree is generated, and logically precedes the code generation phase, in which executable code is generated.

Computer science - Computer science is the study of information and computation. Many diverse fields exist within the broader discipline of computer science; some emphasize the computation of specific results (such as graphics), while others (such as computational complexity theory) relate to properties of algorithms used in performing computations.

Information science - * Information science or informatics refers to study of information. It is related to computer science and cognitive psychology.

Management Science and Information Systems Studies - MSISS, or Management Science and Information Systems Studies, is an undergraduate degree offered in Trinity College Dublin. The broad course offers insights into areas such as economics, maths, statistics, agricultural financing and computer science.

The school has a powerful anti-authoritarian ethos in which it is also a pioneer in including undergraduates in actual research, with the end-of-chapter exercises and writing projects offering individual and collaborative writing options. MIT excels in science and technology, located along the Charles River. For some years past, it has admitted slightly more women students than men.
